Let’s look at his answers and get to learn more about him today!
1. What was your first job?
My first real full-time job was as a programmer/analyst for IBM. I worked on System 36 & 38 with CICS & GDDM in their test labs. It was a great place with innovation and robotics going on all around.
2. How would you describe your journey to becoming a Cloud Computing professional?
I was lucky enough to find a job in the Cloud Computing space around 15 years ago. I have never looked back, and have always embraced Cloud and all its variants.
3. When did you first discover true love for Cloud Computing technology?
The more I realized the benefits of cloud, including multi-tenancy and scale, flexibility, speed, speed of updates, innovation and market reach (both in terms of geographic terms as well as the size of the company it supports), the more I was able to see the possibilities for the future. Cloud is a catalyst for innovation and has fueled the growth of AI and IOT, VR, Big Data and Mobility.
4. We want to hear about your journey towards becoming a cloud computing certified professional. How did you decide to do that?
I was invited to become the first person in the UK to receive COMPTIA’s cloud certification. I have since been certified by both Amazon and Salesforce. I now see transformation from a business perspective and use various cloud platforms to help me achieve my goals.
5. Cloud thought leadership is a globally recognized role that comes with a lot of responsibility. What advice would you give your followers?
To be authentic and transparent. To give back before you take. I have had the privilege of being invited to speak, blog, podcast, and other events. This is because I am first helping others and contributing. As a Schools Speaker, I have been asked to contribute to dissertations, career advice, and help colleagues and ex-employees who are looking to advance in their careers. As much as possible, I help others whenever I can and when I have the time.
6. Cloud computing is now the future, as everyone knows. What do you think?
It is now. Cloud Computing is just beginning. It is a new frontier in innovation and possibilities. Cloud Computing has made computing more accessible and portable. Without it, where would COVID be without it? How would video calls have been possible? How would businesses have shifted to working from home so quickly.
7. Everyone who follows you wants to be like you (or better than) at some point. Many of them will be confused about where or how to begin. Can you share the challenges you faced and the solutions you found?
It takes time to become an influential thought leader and influencer. It takes time and effort to get there. It was by accident that I got there. I contributed by participating and by putting myself out there as a speaker and blogger. By taking the proactive approach, it began to bring back opportunities to comment and invitations to speak. You will get more opportunities and more exposure the more you contribute. It’s about being consistent and proactive.
8. A leader who is open to learning is a leader. What were your valuable lessons and un-learnings on your journey to becoming a thought leader
To be open to learning and to engage with others. To debate, listen, learn and disagree authentically. To be open to corrections and accept that you don’t know everything.
9. Please describe the leadership skills that every person should have.
Respect others, earn respect. Your actions, expertise, and behavior will earn others to follow you.
10. What is the one thing that motivates you to be better every day?
Passionate about what I do, genuine interest in it, and enjoyment of what I do. This is complemented by the realization that “I don’t even know what I don’t know.” To continue to be able to do this.
