Classic car enthusiasts come in all shapes and sizes, far from the stereotypical image of a middle aged man trying to regain his youth. Classic cars carry with them romanticism and charm so powerful that when you sit behind the wheel or even as a passenger, you can’t help but feel a sense of occasion.
What defines a classic car? Many people assume that a car has to be something like a Model T Ford when they imagine it as a classic, but that is far from the case. While the exact requirements for a vehicle to be classified as a classic are a mystery, the rule is generally that vehicle must be older than around 20 years. In the UK for road tax purposes a car is deemed as a classic car if it was registered before 1st January 1973.
The journey of an owner and their chosen car often starts much earlier. While some people are happy to just buy their dream car and just savor driving it, and who can blame them this covers a wide range of people. Some people go much further and enjoy the rebuilding and restoration of a car. There is something magical about buying an old car and restoring it, as many a man (and women) have bought a classic car purely with the intentions of restoring it. Stripping the car down to its bare chassis and rebuilding each peace with love and care. Once the vehicle is completely restored and this sometimes takes people years, the car takes pride of place in the owners garage and provides a great sense of admirable accomplishment coupled with pleasure and pride while onlookers marvel at the cars beauty and condition.
Some people love the restoration process so much that once they have driven their freshly restored car around for a while they feel the need to buy another and start the whole process again! Maybe you should try it when you get a chance by restoring one of your all time favorite vehicles.
